Durham Regional Police are hunting for a suspect after a cache of jewelry was stolen during a residential break-in Friday.

Police said officers responded at 9:30 a.m. to reports of a break-in at a home in the Grandview St. N.-Harmony Rd. N. area of Oshawa, after a burglar entered the residence and took a “large quantity of jewelry.”

A suspect, who fled on foot, was captured on surveillance video. He is described as a 5-foot-6, Middle Eastern man, who was wearing a black puffy jacket, light grey sweatpants and a tuque.

An elderly man is dead after being struck by a car last week in Little Portugal.
Toronto Police said that they responded after a 2010 Toyota Corolla struck an 81-year-old man who was crossing Dufferin St., a few blocks south of College St., last Thursday at 7:11 p.m.
The 22-year-old driver remained at the scene and was not injured.
OPP make multiple impaired arrests overnight
Toronto-area OPP officers arrested at least seven people after “multiple” crashes on New Year’s Eve and into New Year’s Day.
The arrests came after the Highway Safety Division said last week that the OPP had responded to 358 fatal collisions in 2023 that resulted in 397 deaths. The last time they investigated more than 400 deaths linked to such incidents was in 2007.

The OPP said that 49 of those deaths were the result of an alcohol- or a drug-related crashes, with officers laying more than 10,000 impaired driving charges in 2023.
