With the new remake of Super Mario RPG on the horizon, we’ve written an estimate on the game’s length and how long the main story will take to beat.
The original version is (somehow) over 25 years old. Hence its name, it was also the first RPG in the entire Mario franchise. That means it’s also a little bit longer than your average Mario game. It’s now receiving a full remake for Switch, and it’s due out on November 17. Given Super Mario RPG’s trailers, screenshots, and early marketing materials, the main story is largely unchanged compared to the original version on the SNES.
Super Mario RPG: how long to beat?
If you’re playing Super Mario RPG for the first time, you can expect to spend anywhere between 15 and 20 hours playing through the main story. If you’ve played the original and know what you’re doing, you can probably save a few hours. Please note that this number includes optional areas (of which there are only a few) but it doesn’t count things like post-game boss rematches and content. It doesn’t count 100% completion, either – there are lots of hidden treasure boxes spread about the world of Super Mario RPG, and they’re quite tricky to find. Needless to say, if you’re going for full completion it’s going to take you a little longer than 20 hours. If this number changes due to undiscovered new content in the remake, we’ll be sure to update this post later on.
