Rocksteady Studios has confirmed that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will feature an offline mode, but it won’t be available at launch.
According to a message on the official Kill the Justice League Discord server (via VGC), Rocksteady is “planning to add an offline story mode that will give players the option to experience the main campaign without an internet connection”.
The developer goes on to say this feature will be added to the game “in 2024”, and that new information will be provided “when available”.
A new trailer for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League debuted during yesterday’s Game Awards ceremony, alongside reveals for games like Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds and a remake of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons.
The trailer showcases the four playable characters you’ll be able to take control of: Harley Quinn, Deadshot, King Shark, and Captain Boomerang, all of whom will have unique traversal mechanics and combat abilities.
Originally, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was slated for release in May this year, but it was delayed until 2024 after fans expressed concern and dismay at what appeared to be pervasive (and seemingly unwanted) live service elements.
It’s not clear whether those elements will be dropped or changed for the final release, but they’ve certainly been de-emphasized in recent gameplay trailers, which have focused on the game’s narrative and combat instead.
It’s also worth noting that the addition of an offline mode is not the same thing as a single-player mode; Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will be playable solo or in multiplayer, although you will need an online connection to enjoy either mode.
We’ll find out exactly what Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League actually is and how much those live service elements have been stripped back when the game launches for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on February 2nd.
