Developer North Beach Games has announced Stranded Deep 2, a followup to the 2020 survival-crafting game, as well as a brand new development outfit that’s currently working on said sequel.
In a press release, North Beach reveals that it’s opened up a new studio branch in Prague, and that it’s this studio branch which will be heading up the development of Stranded Deep 2, although the game sounds like it’s still pretty early on in its development cycle.
Indeed, we don’t yet know that much about Stranded Deep 2; we know it exists, and that the Prague North Beach team will be handling it, but beyond that, details regarding the game are relatively scarce.
The new North Beach Prague team will be headed up by Sam Edwards, who served as one of the original creators of Stranded Deep as part of Australian studio Beam Team Games.
As well as creating Stranded Deep 2, the Prague team’s responsibilities will also include the creation and support of “new games within the survival crafting space”, which makes sense given North Beach’s pedigree as a developer.
For his part, Edwards says he and Prague general manager Tomáš Pšenička are “super excited” to be working on Stranded Deep 2, and that the goal for the game will be to “look to the future of the franchise and explore new horizons”.
More info on Stranded Deep 2 will be made available “in the future”, North Beach says. The studio will have a presence at this year’s Gamescom, but it doesn’t sound like more info about Stranded Deep 2 will be revealed during this month’s show.
Whatever Stranded Deep 2 turns out to be, we can only hope it’ll be a more pleasurable experience than The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, of which our reviewer Robert was not a big fan. Stay tuned for more on this and all other things North Beach.
