Steve Martin sent fans into a frenzy when he poked fun at Martin Short and Meryl Streep's romance rumors on Instagram on Saturday.
The Father of the Bride actor, 79, notably starred in Short, 74, on the hit Hulu series Only Murders in the Building, with Meryl Streep guest starring in the third and fourth seasons.
She reposted a Glamor photo on her home page while posing with Martin and Meryl Streep, 75.
The photograph appears to have been taken last year, in February 2023, when the trio were attending a play together.
Social media users were quick to speculate that Steve was apparently referring to relationship rumors between his co-stars.

In January of last year, it was announced that Meryl would be joining the cast of Only Murders in the Building and appeared in the third and fourth seasons of the Hulu show.
Short later said of Streep's performance in People: “In the story with Meryl, she called me and said, 'I want to be in it.'
'They already planned that I would have a theatrical experience and have a love interest.
Martin added: “So it was accidental, but he wanted to be on the show.” She doesn't know about [the love story].'
John Hoffman, showrunner of Only Murders in the Building, talked about Martin and Meryl's chemistry last year.
He told Wrap: “Imagining Meryl Streep getting together with Martin Short and them finding this incredible connection together was very unexpected.”
And, like Meryl said, it shouldn't be cheesy or discriminatory or anything like that. It's a beautiful romance that you accept and I think that's what these two characters are.
