A new in-game bundle for the spacefaring MMO Star Citizen dubbed the “Legacy Fleet Admiral Pack,” has sparked discussion due to its hefty price tag. At $48,000 USD, the bundle really catches attention and is a good deal of money.
As found by PC Gamer, this bundle costs $48,000. If you do your research, it’s almost as much as the median US salary in 2022 ($52,000), so not more than most people make, but almost as much as the median is. Still, that’s a lot, and while some people jump straight to judging others for what they spend their money on, it may be worth it for those who purchase it.
The Legacy Fleet Admiral Pack boasts an extensive collection of in-game assets, including over 175 ships, modules, vehicles, and cosmetic items. Highlights include powerful frigates like the Javelin and Idris-P, versatile exploration ships like the Carrack and Pioneer, and an 890 Jump yacht. Additionally, the bundle offers modules for customizing capital ships, ground vehicles, exclusive weapon skins, and even lifetime insurance for the included vessels.
With 175 ships, it’s about $275 a ship, which would be pricey to you and me, but for someone who can spend $48,000 on a game like this, that’s a steal. If you add in the 635 additional items you get from the bundle, it comes down to $60 an item. This is pricey again but is still a total steal if you have the money to spend.
I don’t think we should be rude to the developers or anyone who chooses to buy this. You can tell how judgemental someone is in real life based on how they judge the hobbies of others. Let everyone play the game they like with their money their way. Also, video gaming was once considered a waste in itself, so it’s better not to cast stones in our glass house.
You cannot ignore the Legacy Fleet Admiral Pack’s price regardless of perspective. It underscores the ongoing debate about monetization strategies in games. Getting all these ships definitely gives you an edge, especially with the insurance and other things that come with it. So it’s a great deal overall.
Still, if we criticize Star Citizen for being pay-to-win, we must also criticize Eve Online, which also emphasizes this need for money. I’d say if you’re into this, go for it, you’ve got a winning deal right here.
