Star Wars has been an integral part of film history for more than four decades. In 1977, Star Wars was released, the first installment of one of the most successful film franchises of all time. Not only did this sci-fi film revolutionize the genre, it quickly amassed a legion of fans. To this day, these remain true to the universe surrounding characters like Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker.
As a result, the creators eventually met the demand for any expansions to the series and have since launched various spin-offs of the original story. These people are also often able to build on the success of their predecessors.
Another production that will ensure the hype surrounding “Star Wars” continues into the future. A new trilogy of space epics is planned.
Sci-fi saga gets off to a surprising new start
Following the series' continued success, they reunited to create more works directly from the universe of the classic films. Media such as “Deadline” are currently reporting on this. However, industry magazines understand that the plan is still in the development stage.
Nonetheless, the first details about the upcoming mega-project have leaked. Disney-owned production company Lucasfilm is said to have picked up the latest project. The main people in charge are director Simon Kinberg and Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy.
However, they didn't want to make a sequel or historical expansion of an existing film. Instead, the concept this time around is an entirely new “Star Wars” trilogy.
As The Hollywood Reporter claims to have learned, not only will it not be a sequel, but the cast will be all-new.
According to anonymous sources, brand new characters are being added to the trilogy. This information does not necessarily mean that already familiar faces will not show up unexpectedly.
Star Wars: Another spin-off is already in the works
However, before the new Star Wars saga hits the big screen, another entry will do so. “The Mandalorian and Grogu”, also from the sci-fi epic universe, is worth looking forward to by fans. The film already has a definite release date: it will be released in German cinemas on May 21, 2026.
Contrary to recent developments, this is intended to tie in with existing storylines. Although specific details are currently unknown, it can be assumed that the title will be the first spin-off in the series. The Mandalorian and Grogu is expected to pick up where The Mandalorian Season 3 left off.
