With Spider-Man 2 now out in the wild, many fans are wondering about the possibility of a spin-off or sequel, with Insomniac themselves seemingly stoking the fires for something Venom flavoured.

We loved the game in our Spider-Man 2 review, and already it looks like there’s plans for a Spider-Man 2 New Game Plus. However, most remember that the previous game got an excellent standalone expansion in the form of Spider-Man Miles Morales. So naturally, many are wondering if the sequel could get the same treatment. To that end, senior narrative director Jon Paquette was asked in an interview by Insider about the potential for a Venom-centric spin-off in a similar vein to Miles Morales. While his answer wasn’t by any means a definitive confirmation, it does open the door of hope to fans hoping to see more of the Symbiote.

“So, here’s what we’re doing. We’re focused on ‘Spider-Man 2,’ and what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna wait to see how the fans react, we’re gonna listen to the fans and we’re gonna ask ourselves, ‘Okay, what do the fans really want?’.” It’s certainly welcome news for fans – who even prior to the game’s launch were most hyped about the character becoming part of the Insomniac Spider-Man universe, and not just because Tony Todd is a stellar addition to the Spider-Man 2 voice cast.

For now though, given Spider-Man 2 is only just out of the door, we’ll have to wait a little while before we hear news of an expansion or follow-up. But hey – if we do indeed get one and you’re listening, Insomniac, we hope we get to tussle with Carnage too.
