Sparking Zero May Split Fighters Into Character Types

Highlights

  • Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero will supposedly organize characters into archetypes like long-range specialists and melee experts for diverse gameplay options.
  • Goku and Vegeta have multiple spots on the roster with various transformations, each playing to their strengths like long-range blasts or rushdown attacks.
  • The leak suggests Sparking Zero characters will be split into All-Around, Power, Speed, and Technique types, hinting at a ‘Power vs. Speed’ theme.

A new report has indicated that Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero will organize its roster into different character archetypes that specialize in certain areas. Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is the fourth mainline title in the classic Budokai Tenkaichi series, which are 3D Dragon Ball arena fighters. These games have large rosters that allow fans to play as some of their favorite Dragon Ball characters in destructible environments. Sparking Zero is a return to the series after a nearly 15-year absence, bringing in an upgraded cel-shaded look.

Some of Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero‘s roster has already been revealed, which includes classic Dragon Ball characters like Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, and Trunks, alongside newcomers from Dragon Ball Super like Jiren and Bergamo. Goku and Vegeta in particular have some of the most spots on the roster, considering their long history in the series and the various transformations they’ve unlocked over the years. To balance out the diverse character roster, these fighters will be split into different character archetypes.

Rumor: Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero May Be Missing an Important Multiplayer Feature

Recent rumors suggest Bandai Namco’s Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero may be missing an important multiplayer feature across all platforms.

A recent scan of V-Jump magazine shared by ShonenGames (translations provided by @dbcade on Twitter) briefly goes into detail about how Goku and Vegeta will play in Sparking Zero. Vegeta is described as being a character that specialized in long-range ki blasts, such as his Galick Gun or Big Bang Attack. It also mentions how Vegeta’s energy restoration rate is fast, likely meaning players can also fire these attacks or smaller ki blasts at a faster rate than characters like Goku.

Goku, on the other hand, is described as a fighter who is built for melee and rushdowns, chasing his opponents and overwhelming them at close range. Goku’s Kaioken technique can be used as a quick way to strengthen his abilities, with his various Super Saiyan transformations increasing his strength and speed. He can also use the Instant Transmission technique, allowing him to teleport to his opponent and catch them off-guard. The scans indicate that the player can adjust their strategy in battle based on the transformations the characters are using.

This claim of character archetypes was supported further by a recent leak shared by ShonenGames on Twitter, as it mentioned how each character would be split into four types: All-Around, Power, Speed, and Technique. This is seemingly supported by how Sparking Zero‘s next “theme” will be “Power vs. Speed,” and that will be the title of the game’s next trailer. This leak mentions the Sagas Sparking Zero will cover, where this next trailer will supposedly have characters like Chi-Chi from the original Dragon Ball, Vegito from the Buu Saga, and even a sneak peek from the Tournament of Power. Fans should still take this leak with a grain of salt until the trailer is officially revealed by Bandai Namco and Spike Chunsoft.
