Some Diablo 4 Players Are Having Trouble Making Spiritborn in Vessel of Hatred

Some Diablo 4 players have encountered multiple issues preventing them from making Spiritborn characters, though most of the problems are easily fixable. By ensuring they have bought, registered, and installed the appropriate version of Vessel of Hatred, most Diablo 4 fans should be able to start their adventures in Nahantu using the new Spiritborn class.

The launch for Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred has gotten off to a rocky start. Its problems began on October 7, when the 4 PM PDT global release time for Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred was delayed by more than five hours due to unforeseen technical issues.

Here are all the critical info you need to know about Mercenaries in Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred, including how Reinforcements and progression work.

Vessel of Hatred is finally live, but it seems the expansion’s woes are far from over. Some players discovered they could not make Spiritborn characters after logging in after the expansion’s launch. In a post on the Blizzard forum, Diablo 4 community manager Adam Fletcher provided a series of troubleshooting tips, isolating the issue to one of three sources: each platform must own Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred individually, some fans were able to purchase the Standard to Ultimate upgrade without owning the Standard version of the expansion, and the Xbox client not automatically installing the update.

Why Can’t Some Players Make a Spiritborn in D4: Vessel of Hatred?

  • Players must own Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred to play a Spiritborn.
    • The expansion must be purchased for each platform individually – Spiritborn cannot be made or played on a platform that doesn’t own it.
    • This means some fans may need to buy two copies of the expansion if they want to play on multiple platforms.
  • An error allowed some players to buy the Standard to Ultimate upgrade for Vessel of Hatred without owning the Standard edition.
    • Purchasing the Standard edition should fix this problem.
  • Xbox versions may not have downloaded and applied the update automatically. To check the version, perform the following steps:
    • Press Start while hovering over the Diablo 4 Icon
    • Select Manage Game Add-Ons, then D4 Base Game
    • Select Manage Installation on internal storage
    • Check the Vessel of Hatred Expansion Pack check box, then Save Changes

The first two problems can be solved simply by purchasing Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred; a second time for another platform for the former, and the Standard edition in the latter case. The Xbox issue can be solved by manually checking to make sure the Vessel of Hatred DLC is installed for Diablo 4, which can be confirmed via the Manage Installation option while on the internal storage menu.

Sadly, this isn’t the only issue Diablo 4 is having right now. Some players are randomly having their Vessel of Hatred licenses revoked in the middle of play – a problem that should be fixable by swapping over to a non-Spiritborn character and then going back. Blizzard is working on implementing hotfixes for these and other problems, so hopefully, fans can enjoy everything in the Diablo 4 expansion without incident soon.
