A bizarre movement glitch on Xbox causes a Hogwarts Legacy player to do a hilarious shuffle reminiscent of Commander Shepard’s infamous dance from the Mass Effect games. While Hogwarts Legacy had an immensely successful launch, it still launched with a fair few bugs that Avalanche Software had to address. Older generation platforms such as Xbox One and PS4 had a staggered launch, and the Switch port only came out on November 14.

Though fans believe that Hogwarts Legacy was snubbed at The Game Awards 2023, it still had a positive reception among critics and players alike. Avalanche Software created a role-playing game set in the Wizarding World, and its open world concept that prioritized convenience was almost universally praised. The Room of Requirement, its spellcasting combat, and strong writing during Sebastian Sallow’s questline were all noted as highlights, but there still remained obvious areas for Avalanche to improve upon for a potential sequel.

Hogwarts Legacy’s Dark Tone Wouldn’t Be the Sequel’s Biggest Challenge

Hogwarts Legacy’s tone has to change in the sequel if it wants to stay fresh, but it might be hard to make it lighter rather than gloomier.

That being said, while most of the game-breaking bugs in Hogwarts Legacy were fixed, it would appear that some of its more amusing ones remained. A player named Meekers94 shared video footage of their character’s movement inexplicably glitching out after performing a dodge roll. Other Hogwarts Legacy fans in the comment thread were quick to dub the odd dance-like movement the Hogwarts Shuffle, likely a nod to Commander Shepard’s Shepard Shuffle, with the reference seemingly made due to the similarly stiff nature of the Mass Effect dance animation.

Thankfully, the bug appears to be harmless, as Meekers94 was able to continue their movement unimpeded after it occurred. Another comment pointed out that the performance on the Xbox One did not seem all too different from the Nintendo Switch version of Hogwarts Legacy, which is certainly a commendable accomplishment by Avalanche Software, as recent games have shown that the Switch may be nearing its hardware limit.

If rumors are to be believed, Avalanche Software is already working on a Hogwarts Legacy sequel. Though no details are known at this time, the ending of Hogwarts Legacy certainly set a decent foundation for a franchise, and continuing the story of the fifth-year student, while being mindful of power scaling, would be a natural way to go. In terms of features that could be a part of the sequel, players have notoriously asked for Quidditch ever since Avalanche announced that it wouldn’t be a part of Hogwarts Legacy, though flying around with a broom across Hogsmeade Valley certainly had its charm all the same – even if it had some hilarious bugs at first.
