There's not much that would be a deal breaker for me, but I wanted him to shave the beard, not so much for the character, but because I knew it would make him a little miserable.

I made the mistake that I think audiences sometimes make of comparing someone to the role they played. He must have been an empathetic, lovely guy, and in my head I thought, “No, Brett is more like (Ted Lasso's character) Roy Kent.” And then I say, “What am I talking about? He is so lovely and wonderful as a person.” Jason Segel really got his act together and said, “What are you doing, man? We should just let Brett play the role. I'm not going to spoil it, but the show only works if you start rooting for this guy, and I think he kills it.
