Phase One of Genshin Impact Version 4.1 has begun, giving players two different 5-star characters to choose from. Players can choose to spend their hard earned Primogems on two new characters: Neuvillette or Hu Tao. Both of these characters are competing for your main DPS slot, but like with most of the characters in this game, choosing between Neuvillette and Hu Tao is not as simple as asking “who is better?” Here’s our guide on whether you should pull for Neuvillette or Hu Tao in Genshin Impact.
Neuvillette and Hu Tao are also joined by the 4-star characters Diona, Fischl, and Xingqiu. Diona is a strong 4-star Cryo shielder, and can synergize well with Neuvillette if you choose to run him in a freeze team. Fischl also synergizes well with Neuvillette, able to consistently proc Electro-Charged for his Hydro attacks. Finally, Xingqiu is a powerful off-field Hydro DPS character that synergizes particularly well with Hu Tao. These 4-stars are a solid lineup, so you can’t go wrong with getting a few of these characters alongside your new desired 5-star.
Should you pull for Neuvillette in Genshin Impact?
Neuvillette is a brand new 5-star Hydro character in Genshin Impact with a unique and stylish way of dealing damage. Neuvillette can absorb water droplets that drop from the rest of his kit to power up his Charged Attack. This Charged Attack sends out a huge torrent of water that can deal devastating damage to enemies. Neuvillette is new and shiny, but is an amazing choice for a DPS character. However, Neuvillette does have limited free-to-play weapon options, with the best perhaps being the Prototype Amber.
Neuvillette is flexible as a character, however, and can be run with a variety of different team comps, such as Bloom teams, Hyperbloom teams, Vaporize teams, Freeze teams, and more. Neuvillette still performs adequately with free-to-play options. Additonally, Neuvillette works with the new Pneuma mechanic in Fontaine (read about how that works here.) Neuvillette is a solid choice for your account if you need a main DPS character, and it’s highly recommended to pull for him.
Should you pull for Hu Tao?
Hu Tao is an older 5-star Pyro character in Genshin Impact with a self-drain HP mechanic. After activating her Elemental Skill, her Normal and Charged attacks are imbued with a Pyro infusion, allowing her to deal tons of Pyro damage. Hu Tao is notorious for her strong damage in single-target scenarios, such as against bosses with high HP pools. Hu Tao is still quite good in this regard, and can be a solid pick in situations where you really need strong single-target damage.
However, compared to Neuvillette, Hu Tao is much more restrictive. Her main team comps revolves around having an off-field Hydro applicator, such as Xingqiu or Yelan (or both), allowing her hits to trigger the Vaporize reaction. Hu Tao’s other teams are more niche and not as well regarded. Additionally, her gameplay rotation requires some practice, as her optimal playstyle involves animation canceling and conserving stamina. Hu Tao is not recommended for newer players, but for older players who already has a Hydro DPS, Hu Tao may be a better pick than Neuvillette.
