Shenendehowa graduate becomes Ohio ban leader | Sports

Clarkson University sophomore Eric Spoth (Shenendehowa) was named the Liberty League Men's Golf Performer of the Week on Monday. Spoth placed eighth among 60 golfers at the Hamilton Invitational. He shot 74-77-151 over two rounds at Rome Country Club.

On Monday, Russell Sage junior Tirzah Spivey (Schenectady) was named the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week in women's tennis. The two-time All-Empire 8 Conference singles selection finished No. 2 in singles with a mark of 3-0. One of her wins came against the reigning E8 Player of the Year, helping her improve to 10-0 in singles play this fall.

Additionally, Russell Sage's top-ranked women's doubles team of graduate Emma Nuzzi (Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and Spivey was named the Empire 8 Conference Doubles Team of the Week for the period ending September 29. The duo won 8:1 against opponents from St. John Fisher.

Also in the Empire 8, the Hartwick women's doubles team of Ryann Ashby (Ballston Spa) and Gianna Leggieri (Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) helped the Hawks capture at least a share of the E8 regular season title with two-game wins over their Russell Sage opponents , 8-4 and Houghton, 8-3. Both teams are 5-1 on the season, including 4-0 in E8.

Senior striker St. John Fisher Riley Grimm (Guilderland) was named the Empire 8 women's soccer offensive player of the week on Monday. She scored three goals to help the Cardinals extend their winning streak to four. She scored once in a 2-0 win over Alfred and twice more in a 3-1 win over Russell Sage. He currently leads the team and with six goals ranks second in the conference.

UAlbany cross country runner Tess Fitzmaurice (Greenville) was named the America East Performer of the Week on Oct. 1. On September 27, she won the RPI Harvest Classic. She covered the five-kilometer route in 18:06.6.

SUNY Plattsburgh senior Megan Phelps (Ballston Spa) joined partner Sophia Gottschall in earning SUNYAC Women's Tennis Doubles Player of the Week honors for the period ending September 29. The pair won matches against Saint Michael's and St. Joseph's (Long Island).

On September 30, a graduate of St. John Fisher Nick Tellone (Niskayuna) was named Empire 8 Conference Men's Golf Player of the Week. He placed ninth out of 104 golfers in the Northeast Elite Championship at Williamsport (Pa.) Country Club, shooting a 1-under-par 141 (68-73 ) in two rounds.

Russell Sage senior outside hitter Macey Salvione (Gloversville) was named Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week for the period ending September 29. She recorded 43 kills, 43 digs and eight aces to help the Gators to a 3-0 week. At this point, she led the Empire 8 Conference in kills (216), aces (45) and points (261.5).

On September 24, Fulton-Montgomery women's volleyball player Amber Cole (Fonda-Fultonville) was named the NJCAA Region III Athlete of the Week. Cole had 96 assists in three wins.

Nazareth senior forward Drew Decker (Clifton Park/CBA) was named the Empire 8 Conference Men's Soccer Co-Offensive Player of the Week on September 23. Decker had four points on a goal and two assists on the week with a 1-0-1 record for the Golden Flippers. Decker had his 32nd career assist this week, tying the Empire 8 record for most career assists. Then he scored two more points in the next two games and became the conference's career leader.

Thomas Hickey (Mechanicville), a junior defender on the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts men's soccer team, started the first 10 games. Teammate Marcos Lopez (Mohonasen) also plays in midfield. He has one assist.

Freshman midfielder Catelyn Hodge (Mohonasen) also plays for MCLA and scored six goals and one assist for the women's soccer team, including four in a Sept. 25 game against Bay Path. He leads the team in goals and points.

American International College sophomore midfielder Maddie Darling (Scotia-Glenville) has three goals and one assist for the field hockey team through October 5.

Clark University freshman linebacker Gediwon Wiliams (Coxsackie-Athens) played in 10 games for the men's soccer team and started one. He has one assist.

Springfield College junior defender/midfielder Nicolette Morlock (Shenendehowa) had one goal and three assists in 11 starts for the field hockey team.

On the Springfield College women's soccer team, graduate forward Olivia Raucci (Mohonasen) scored two goals in six games played, and junior defender Mirabel Brunell (Shenendehowa) recorded one assist in nine games.

At SUNY Potsdam, 2010 Saratoga Springs graduate and longtime assistant coach Gill Conners was named men's lacrosse coach in July.

On the SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team, junior middle hitter Matt Kilinski (Saratoga Springs) had 312.5 points through Oct. 7 (second on the team), including 233 kills and 31 aces. It also has 73 excavations and 11 blocks.

Senior forward Hailey von Ahn (Saratoga Springs) scored two goals for the Potsdam women's soccer team.

Alfred University senior linebacker/linebacker Nicholas McLetchie-Goldman (Shenendehowa) had seven tackles (five solo, two assists) on September 28 in the Saxons' 45-15 win over Catholic.

Racquel Gerstenberger (Schoharie), a senior forward for Alfred State, started 14 of 15 games for the women's volleyball team. She leads the team in points (223.5), kills (186) and digs (165), and has added 13 aces. As a junior, Gerstenberger was an AMCC first-team All-Conference member.
