Man of the Match grinning from ear to ear: Xherdan Shaqiri (left) silenced his critics.Image: trapezoid
1 goal, 3 assists and an almost immediate conversion of a corner: Xherdan Shaqiri had it all in FC Basel's 6-0 win over Winterthur. The simultaneous defeat of Lausanne GC gave hope to the bottom team.
Winterthur – Basel 1:6
That's why they brought him in. That's why they paid him about 5 million francs for three years. Fans don't just love Xherdan Shaqiri for his achievements in Basel.
Against Winterthur, he was in control; it felt like every pass the 125th national team player made found his teammates. He prepared for such a goal three times and he himself scored a genius goal from a direct corner kick, only for the league to rule Winterthur goalkeeper Stefanos Carpino's goal an own goal. Otherwise, the 33-year-old would have received five points. Even so, Xherdan Shaqiri and FC Basel put in a solid performance, winning 6-0 at the Schützenwiese Stadium.
“Everything went well today, also for me personally.”
Goal-winner Xherdan Shaqiri
In the 8th minute, Shaqiri took a corner kick and Kevin Carlos scored the first goal. Carlos scored twice to help Basel beat St Gallen last weekend, scoring with a header. A quarter of an hour later, Shaqiri deftly passed the ball into the penalty area, and Beni Traore's equally wonderful volley made it 2-0. Soon after, the 33-year-old was on the top scorer list with a curling shot. Winterthur's defense were reduced to extras during Shaqiri's big performance.

Nothing changed after the break. In the 48th minute, Shaqiri received a pass from Dominik Schmid and turned around to create space before passing the ball back to Romario Barro. He seized the opportunity and rewritten the score to 4-0.
“In fact, I have to say, the goal is mine.”
Xherdan Shaqiri
And then there's this corner kick, which Shaqiri shamelessly curls straight towards goal, just like he did against England in the European Championship quarter-finals. This time the ball actually ended up in the goal, but goalkeeper Stefanos Carpino was still there and was listed as the scorer of the own goal.

Shaqiri smiled mischievously and said: “Actually, I have to say, the goal was mine. The goalkeeper didn't really take it personally.” But Basel No. 10 can live with it: “In the end, it was It doesn't matter to me. What matters is that the ball went in and we got three points.” Even without the second goal, his performance and four scorers should be enough to silence the critics for now. Shaqiri in particular has improved recently and crossed for Adrian Barisic to score the decisive goal in the 1-0 win over YB.
“Excellent. Everything went well today and we are happy that Xherdan Shaqiri is with us.”
Dominique Schmid
In the 71st minute, head coach Fabio Celestini replaced the big-name player, and Xherdan Shaqiri also received the applause he deserved from the home fans. Shortly after, Tomas Soticek continued FCB's feast, and even though Shaqiri was not on the court, his goal still made it 6-0. As a result, Winterthur's Randy Schneider only managed a consolation goal – much to the chagrin of the visiting team's Marvin Sheets.
But this should disappear quickly when you look at the table. With three consecutive wins, FCB is temporarily ranked third, while Winterthur remains at the bottom.

Lausanne – GC 3:0
The grasshoppers were still trapped. They suffered three consecutive losses at the Lausanne Sporting 0-3.
The Grasshoppers seemed to be on track after a 1-0 victory over the Young Boys on September 28, but never scored again. Although record champions Winterthur (0 wins and 1 loss) and now Lausanne Sporting met opponents they should have beaten, GC, second from bottom in the standings, wanted nothing to do with relegation.
Just 65 seconds later, the disaster for the guests began. In the silliest moment, Avel Mabir slipped on the artificial turf in his own half before Alvin Sanchez picked up the ball, ran into the box and put a shot into the far corner of GC goalkeeper Justin Hamel's shot with no trace Chance. It was the 21-year-old's fifth goal of the tournament.

While Grasshoppers had good chances in the first half through Noah Persson (16'), Abeer (21') and Amir Abrahi in stoppage time, Zurich failed to do so in the second half. Not enough opportunities. The absence of the suspended Giotto Morandi, who is clearly Grasshoppers' most dangerous player with three goals and two assists to his name in this league, is noticeable.
Kevin Mouanga extended the score to 2-0 in the 80th minute and Noe Dussenne took responsibility for the final result seven minutes later with a penalty kick. Lausanne Sporting celebrated a third consecutive home win and took seven points from their last three games.

Lucerne – Yverdon 2:3
Yverdon is celebrating his Super League debut. Canton Vaud won 3-2 for the first time in Lucerne. It's a crazy final stretch. In the 91st minute, Lucerne made the score 2-2 thanks to Christian Max's own goal. Trailing 2-0, the Swiss Central team looked set to score for the third time this season. But the visitors still prevailed after Lucerne conceded a goal in their own half and Mickey Entlo scored in the 94th minute. Yverdon lost all of their first seven games in Switzerland's top flight Lucerne.

Lucerne's Donat Rudhani missed the first great chance of the game in the 7th minute. A minute later, Boris Cespedes scored his fifth goal of the season to give Yverdon a 1-0 lead. 4 minutes later, Ugo Comano received a corner kick from the home team to complete the counterattack, 2-0. The Frenchman met the unattractive Lucerne goalkeeper Pascal Loretz at the near corner.
During the second break for the Chinese Super League national teams, Central Switzerland topped the list. Now, after beating Young Boys 2-1, the second game was also lost. Yverdon, on the other hand, has scored ten points in his last four games.
