As the Steam Winter Sale 2023 approaches, many gamers will have their wishlists of games they hope get a massive discount in this year’s sale. Well, we’re no exception to that rule either.
2023 has been a bumper year for great games, and there’s a number we’re hoping to see get a big discount in this year’s end-of-year bargains. So here, we’ve collated for you our wishlist of discounts we hope to see – and while not all of them will come to pass, we’ll certainly be pleased if they do and help bolster our ever expanding Steam library. Just don’t ask when we’re going to get time to play them all. But if you want to be ready for exactly when the sale starts, be sure to check out our Steam Winter Sale 2023 start time guide.
List of the seven games we want to see in Steam’s Holiday Sale
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
- Diablo 4
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Jusant
- Starfield
Baldur’s Gate 3
The big obvious one is big and obvious – but how could we not mention this? For a start, as you can tell from our Baldur’s Gate 3 review, playing the game at launch cemented Larian’s effort as one of the best RPGs not just of this year, but potentially of the current generation. And yet, since launch it’s only got better from there, with absolutely loads of fixes, tweaks, new additions and even new content in an enormously generous package. The only thing missing from our Christmas list is a discount – for those that haven’t picked it up yet, it’ll be a fantastic excuse to finally pick this up and give it a play over the holidays and find out just what the fuss is all about.
Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty
As we’ve already mentioned, this year’s been a bumper one for great games – especially RPGs – and it wasn’t just those in the mould of traditional wizards and dragons. The Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty expansion also released a few months ago, and it was another game that got a stellar review from us. A spy thriller that, along with patch 2.0 actually makes Cyberpunk 2077 live up to the potential it promised when it first released. A discount on the expansion now for those that haven’t had the chance to be impressed by the game’s incredible turnaround? That sounds great to us.
Diablo 4
The return of the Mother of action RPGs, Diablo’s return this year was cemented with the excellent Diablo 4. As we mentioned in our Diablo 4 review, the cycle of killing, looting and repeating remains as compelling as ever with the latest iteration. And though the post launch content has been somewhat uneven – a disappointing first season was then followed up with a stellar second one – many people were very excited when an expansion was announced for next year. So a discount for the holidays would be very timely indeed.
Resident Evil 4 Remake
Just a few games removed from their stellar Resident Evil 2 remake, Capcom have done it again by achieving what many thought was impossible – remaking a game often considered one of the best of all time. While the Resident Evil 4 Remake won’t quite be held in as much reverence as the original (and truly, how could it?), it’s still well worth your time and a great action adventure – with a fantastic Separate Ways DLC too. It’s already seen a few discounts this year, so to get another discount for the end of the year looks almost a surefire bet.
Jusant
A surprise – but a very pleasant one – that came along in the latter half of the year. From Life is Strange developers Don’t Nod, Jusant sees you embark on a quest to climb a mountain in order to find out where all the water’s gone. While the premise sounds straightforward, it’s got some solid climbing mechanics and as our Jusant review explained it’s a great antithesis to all the other big name games that came out this year. The game’s usual price is already lower than average, considering its compact length – but a further discount will just make the decision to buy even easier.
Starfield
A few months removed from its launch, and you’d be forgiven for thinking the mood has soured on Starfield somewhat. The truth is, as our Starfield review says, it’s still a pretty great Bethesda RPG and while right now it’s hard to see it being mentioned in similar air to Fallout and Skyrim, it is still a pretty damn excellent time pottering around space with plenty of space adventuring to be had. And heck – the Steam version of course will be supported by mods and the community for months and years to come, so getting a discount in the Steam sales will be great to get, and make sure you’re ready for the upcoming expansion.
Steam Deck OLED
OK, we’re cheating here because our final pick is not a game at all. But the Steam Deck OLED released just a couple of weeks ago to the surprise of many. A hardware refresh was expected at some point, but Valve only gave about two weeks warning. While it might be wishful thinking, it’d be cool to see the machine – which we’ve reviewed here – get a discount in the Steam Sale. Failing that, we’d be happy to see the older model get a Steam Sale discount, if only to shift the remaining few units before they’re phased out by the newer model. (Check out our Steam Deck OLED review here, if you’ve not yet.)
