Russell Brand claims he 'found God' in Hurricane Milton: Comic shares bizarre Miami video showing 'omnipotent power we have no control over'

Russell Mark claimed to have found God in the middle of Hurricane Milton in a video posted thousands of miles from the eye of the storm.

The strange post on X shows the disgraced comedian in Miami, which is not in the path of the Category 3 hurricane.

Walking down a dark street, the 49-year-old makes a chaotic attempt to connect the storm with his new, self-proclaimed Christian faith.

Brand says, “In the midst of this crazy storm in Florida – and my prayers are for those of you who are more directly affected by it – it's worth considering how the storm metaphor affects us all.

“I think that, like animals, we can feel that something extraordinary is happening, and we pray for the people of Tampa, Sarasota and all those who are directly affected by this situation elsewhere.

Brand says,

“I was taught from Matthew that when the Apostles were dealing with a storm, Peter first asks when he sees our Lord on the water, “Is that you,” and you don't get out of the boat until you know it's Jesus, until you know that the Lord says “yes, come”, he says “yes” and you can get out of the boat.

But unlike Peter, when you are outside the boat, you must keep your eyes on the Lord, because if you take your eyes off Jesus, the storm may devour you.

The brand was accused of rape, assault and emotional abuse in a joint investigation last year by Channel 4's Dispatches programme, The Times and The Sunday Times.

He has strongly denied all allegations regarding his behavior, which allegedly occurred at the height of his fame between 2006 and 2013.

Continuing his speech on social media, Brand describes the storm as evidence of God's power.

“I suppose the storm is a demonstration of an all-powerful power over which we have no control,” he says. “It is a metaphor that helps me understand that I must listen and wait for Christ.”

Since December 2023, Brand has published several posts discussing his growing relationship with Christianity.

Last month, the 49-year-old was baptized in underpants, with the caption: “It may seem a little early to baptize people, but the Apostles did it on the first day, so here we are.”

He also posted a video with an interpretation of the Bible, in which he expressed his gratitude for God's sacrifice.

“How can we ever understand consciously, with our finite mind, that God Himself came down to earth and was sacrificed so that we could be redeemed and resurrected, so that we could have eternal life, with our finite consciousness it is not possible,” he said.

Brand was baptized in the Thames in April after converting following the allegations against him.

He said he felt “nourished” and “as if a new source of energy had been turned on within me after his own baptism.”

It comes as Hurricane Milton continues to carve a path of destruction across Florida, leaving several people dead and tearing off the roof of Tropicana Field as it heads to Orlando and out into the Atlantic.

The first casualties were reported even before Milton made landfall as a Category 3 storm at around 8.30pm EST (1.30am BST), causing “catastrophic” flooding, winds of up to 200km/h and several curves, some of which proved fatal.

After reaching land, Milton began to flow east, destroying everything in its path by tearing off the roof of Tropicana Field, home of the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team in St. Petersburg.

At least 117 tornado warnings were issued in communities across the state overnight and this morning, and dozens of them materialized and caused devastation.

More than 3 million homes and businesses were without power in Florida this morning.
