Today Koei Tecmo announced that the Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake has been delayed.
While the game never actually had a firm release date, the announcement, which came via X (formerly Twitter), mentions that the game has been shifted out of its “early 2024” release window for a more generic 2024.
The game was originally revealed in the Japanese version of the Nintendo Direct in September 2023. Weirdly, it was skipped by the Western Nintendo Direct as it often happens for some Japanese games, despite the fact that they’re confirmed to be released in the West, for reasons that I will never fully understand.
According to the announcement, since this is the first big remake of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms series, the developers have decided that it was necessary for it to be delayed to further improve its quality and deliver content that will satisfy the fans
The developers also mention that a specific release date will be announced at a later time, and asked fans to be patient for a while.
They also apologized to those who were eagerly waiting for the release, and promised that they’ll make it up for the wait by continuing to improve the game.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake is coming for PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The original game was launched for PC in 2001 in Japan, and then ported to PS2 the following year and even to PSP in 2007.
It was actually localized in English, albeit only for PS2, in 2003 for North America and 2004 for Europe.
The remake is based on the usual Power Up Kit expansion originally released in 2002, adding plenty of features to the original game. We actually have an interview with the developers of Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake in transcription, and it’ll be published soon.
The latest Romance of the Three Kingdoms game was ROTK XIV, released both in Japan and in the West in 2020.
