On April 5, ROH Women’s Champion Athena paid homage to Baldur’s Gate 3 character Karlach at the Supercard of Honor PPV. During her entrance, she came out in a ring attire inspired by Karlach, complete with the character’s horns and her signature axe. The veteran wrestler, who is also known as Ember Moon from her time in WWE, successfully defended her title against Hikaru Shida in a grueling singles match.

Moreover, Athena later went on Twitter to thank Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios and Dungeons and Dragons for letting her portray her favorite character. In the post, she also described herself as a “DND nerd,” sparking excitement among her fans.

Wrestlers Portraying Game Characters is a Regular Occurrence

Athena’s take on Baldur’s Gate 3 character Karlach isn’t the first time a wrestler has portrayed a popular game character during a match. In the past, many top names in wrestling, such as Cody Rhodes and Kenny Omega, have worn ring attires that give a nod to a game franchise. Back in 2018’s Ring of Honor: Final Battle, Rhodes and his wife Brandi dressed as Venom Snake and The Boss, respectively, from the Metal Gear series. On the other hand, AEW’s Omega has walked out to the ring dressed as Sephiroth from Final Fantasy, Akuma from Street Fighter, and other game characters throughout his career.

Moving on, WWE’s Zelina Vega is another wrestler who frequently channels her interest in gaming by wearing ring gear, reminiscent of famous game characters, for her matches. One of her notable tributes goes back to Royal Rumble 2020 when Vega picked the look of Sindel from the Mortal Kombat franchise. Apart from them, other wrestlers who are known to be avid gamers are Adam Cole, Xavier Woods, Miro (Rusev), Tyler Breeze, and Shayna Baszler. These athletes have also made multiple appearances on Woods’ YouTube channel, UpUpDownDown.
