Roblox Corporation has announced that Roblox is now fully available on Meta Quest devices. The company aims to make Roblox accessible across a range of platforms, and this expansion aligns with that strategy. The Meta Quest store now includes Roblox, and during its open beta phase, the game saw over a million installations within the first five days.
According to the company, more than 50,000 VR experiences have been published on Roblox, offering a rich library of content. These VR experiences are not isolated to the Meta Quest community; they are accessible to users on other platforms like Xbox, PlayStation (anticipated release), iOS, Android, and desktop computers.
Roblox encourages developers to optimize their existing experiences for VR or even build new ones specifically with VR in mind. The platform’s universality makes it straightforward to publish and distribute VR experiences with minimal additional coding efforts.
To install Roblox on a Meta Quest device, users need to ensure their device runs on v57 or higher of Meta Quest software. Installation is as simple as searching for Roblox in the Quest Store or downloading it from a specified link. However, there are limitations, as Meta Quest devices do not currently support Roblox account creation or password sign-in. Instead, users must sign in to their existing Roblox accounts using the Quick Login option on another device, such as a computer or phone.
Known issues and areas for improvement have also been outlined by the Roblox Corporation. Currently, Roblox on Meta Quest is available only for individuals aged 13 and above, though the company is exploring the possibility of expanding this to include people aged 10 and older. Additional features, such as in-experience notifications and a personalized experience recommendation system, are still in development. Other aspects, like improving the accuracy and visual treatment of raycast targeting, as well as enhancing loading screen visuals and performance, are also on the company’s roadmap.
Roblox on Meta Quest also enables users to purchase Robux, the in-game currency, directly from their headset. Currently, the game supports Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, and Meta Quest 3 devices. For developers who wish to unpublish their VR experiences, Roblox provides an option within the Studio platform to do so.
