The long-awaited first trailer for Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu remake is finally here, giving vampire fans a look at the gothic horror remake and its nightmarish visuals.
The positively terrifying teaser is cut very well and gives just enough spine-tingling spookiness ranging from evil auras, bits of possession, and a brief glimpse at the Nosferatu himself (Count Orlok), who is played by Bill Skarsgård.
The third Nosferatu film and the second remake after Werner Herzog’s 1979 remake, it’s worth noting the original 1922 Nosferatu is based on the legendary Bram Stoker novel Dracula. However, its characters, locations, and other names were changed to avoid copyright infringement (they got sued later anyway).
Described as a “gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her,” the film is centered on the titular monster that will cause “untold horror in its wake.”
The film stars Bill Skarsgård alongside Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, Simon McBurney, and Willem Dafoe, who played a vampiric version of original Count Orlok actor Max Schreck in the fictionalized making-of-Nosferatu 2000 movie Shadow of the Vampire.
Here’s the first trailer:
Nosferatu is set to premiere only in North American theaters on Christmas Day this year, on December 25th.
