Riot Games, the developer behind Valorant and League of Legends, has previously communicated their Riot ID transition plan last month. This initiative involves phasing out the usage of Summoner Names in both League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics, starting from November 20th. The decision is part of Riot Games’ effort to establish a cohesive gaming experience across all their titles by exclusively moving all players to Riot IDs.

Riot Games also disclosed that, as part of the original Riot ID transition plan, players would incur a fee of approximately $10 USD in-game currency if they want to change their account name. Alternatively, players have the option to change their Riot ID name at no cost once every 365 days. This decision, however, faced substantial backlash from the gaming community.

Today, Riot Games has provided further insights into the upcoming modifications to their account system and shared that they have dismissed some of their original plans in response to the feedback. The most notable change is the complete dismissal of the $10 USD fee for altering ID names. Furthermore, the company has revised the cooldown period for free name changes, reducing it from 365 days to a more frequent 90-day interval.

Meanwhile, Riot Games shed light on other account system changes, particularly aimed at addressing Riot ID name uniqueness issues. As a solution, the game scoreboards have been updated, which will now consistently display the hashtag alongside the player’s name in instances where multiple players share the same name in a game.

Another issue raised by Riot Games is the problem of impersonation, especially concerning content creators and professional players. The developers have assured the community that they are actively working on a solution to address these concerns and will provide more details once the plan is finalized.
