Results Tigers vs. Guardians, live updates: AL Central rivals play in Game 5 of the ALDS for a chance to face the Yankees in the ALCS

The Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Guardians will face each other Saturday in a decisive Game 5 for a chance to advance to the New York Yankees, who punched their ticket to the American League Championship Series with a 3-1 series win over the Kansas City Royals.

Saturday's game was moved from the evening to the afternoon due to impending weather in Cleveland. In Thursday's Game 5, the Tigers had a chance to close things out, but the Rangers refused to fold, and shortstop David Fry hit a home run in the seventh inning.

The Tigers haven't played in the ALCS since 2013, when they lost to the eventual champion Red Sox. Meanwhile, the Guardians defeated the Blue Jays in the 2016 ALCS before suffering a devastating World Series defeat at the hands of the Cubs.

Tarik Skubal will take over for the Tigers on Saturday, looking to build on his stellar season, which includes two early postseason starts. the Cy Young favorite has yet to give up a shot in 13 innings played so far in October. For the Guardians, it will be Matthew Boyd, who threw 4 2/3 scoreless innings in Cleveland's Game 2 loss to Detroit. Boyd has made just eight starts this season after returning from Tommy John surgery.

The first game of the ALCS will be played on Monday in New York.
