Racist text messages from an unknown phone number are currently causing outrage in the United States. This is reported by CNN. Currently, people of all shades of dark skin are receiving messages asking them to pick cotton.
On Wednesday, a black woman in New Jersey received a text message informing her that she had been “selected to pick cotton at the nearest plantation.”
The recipient of the text message said she initially thought it was a bad joke. “It really goes to show that as a country, we haven't evolved as much as everyone thought since the existence of slavery,” she said.

Other African Americans received similar text messages; children and students were also said to be affected. Some people are called the N-word. The events have created uncertainty: Some students are forming groups out of fear so they don't have to go to class alone.
People also reported calling themselves by their first names in text messages. Its location is also mentioned.

“In some areas, law enforcement said they viewed these messages as a low-level threat,” a statement from Montgomery County Schools said.
State officials condemned the texts
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill wrote on X that “racist and vile spam” was also being circulated in her state. She continued: “I have directed the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation to fully investigate the origins of these abhorrent texts whose sole purpose is to divide us.”
