In addition to software sales for September 2023, Circana executive director and analyst Mat Piscatella also revealed hardware sales in the United States for the month. The PS5 topped the charts again in unit and dollar sales, with Xbox Series X/S in second place.
In unit and dollar sales, the PS5 continues to dominate the year, and it should receive a boost with the release of the new model in November. Hardware spending year-to-date reached $3.7 billion, which is 10 percent higher compared to the same period last year.
Accessory spending also hit $197 million, up by 11 percent year over year, with gamepad spending up 15 percent. Perhaps to no one’s surprise, the PS5 DualSense Wireless Controller – Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Limited Edition topped accessory sales for September.
Video game spending in the United States totalled $4.5 billion for the month, up 10 percent compared to last year, with hardware sales declining by eight percent.
