The PlayStation 5 has been incredibly successful for Sony, but despite almost three years on the market, 2023 could be its biggest year. The company is targeting 25 million consoles shipped for the fiscal year, which it will hit thanks to the console being fully stocked world, said Eric Lempel, head of business operations, to CNBC.

“This holiday season is the first holiday season we will be fully stocked on PlayStation 5 in every geography,” The company has suffered from supply issues since the console’s launch due to the global pandemic and chip shortages.

“We launched back in 2020. We suffered from the same supply chain issues that everybody was dealing with. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to deliver PS5 to every consumer that wanted one.”

By “rebalancing” supply and demand, Lempel says the company expects “record-breaking sales” this holiday season. Of course, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is also a factor and should drive demand (it’s already sold over 2.5 million copies in its first 24 hours).

Interestingly, the upcoming refresh for the PS5 wasn’t mentioned. It’s reportedly out on November 10th and will be the de facto model once current PS5 supplies are over. A bundle that includes Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is also rumored to release on November 8th.

Stay tuned for official announcements in the coming weeks. Check out our review of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 here.
