Developer Shift Up confirms that action RPG Stellar Blade will have multiple different options to allow players to adjust in-game graphics.
Highlights
- Stellar Blade will offer players three graphics settings, including performance, resolution, and a balanced mode for a customizable experience.
- Shift Up’s first console title, Stellar Blade, will utilize unique features of the PS5 like the touchpad and adaptive triggers.
- Players can expect an action-packed journey with stunning visuals in Stellar Blade, thanks to the studio’s focus on smooth gameplay.
Developer Shift Up has confirmed that its upcoming PS5 exclusive action RPG Stellar Blade will feature multiple options to allow players to tweak the game’s performance. These settings will take the form of three different Stellar Blade graphics settings that players can choose based on their preferences.
While detailed performance tweaking is a standard expectation among PC players, graphical options on console games are something of a newer development. Previously, the uniform specs of consoles allowed developers to target a single platform and ensure an identical experience for all players. Even now, even platform-exclusive games like Final Fantasy 16 on the PS5 include a performance mode that allows players to choose whether to prioritize smooth gameplay or higher resolution as they will.
Stellar Blade Might Just Be 2024’s Bayonetta
The upcoming Stellar Blade is carrying on a lot of action game traditions, and could be the Bayonetta title fans weren’t expecting to get this year.
What Graphics Options are Available in Stellar Blade?
According to an interview published by German-language site PLAY3.DE, developer Shift Up will implement a system that allows players to choose their preferred performance in Stellar Blade. In the interview, Game Director Hyung-Tae Kim said that the PS5 hardware specs allowed the team to target a default frame rate of 60 frames per second (FPS). Technical Director Dong-Gi Lee revealed that Stellar Blade will have three graphical options accessible at any time while in game:
- A Performance-prioritizing mode that targets smooth gameplay at 60 FPS.
- A Resolution-prioritizing mode that increases the display resolution of the game to 4K (about 3840 × 2160 pixels), for use on high-resolution TVs and monitors.
- A “Balanced” mode that will dynamically locate a balance between the above two modes.
Kim also mentioned that Stellar Blade will use some of the unique features of the PS5, such as the touchpad and adaptive triggers on the DualSense controller. He said that Sony provided significant technical support during the development of the game. With a history in mobile titles like Destiny Child and Goddess of Victory: NIKKE, the studio did not have a lot of experience developing titles with the sort of open-zone play seen in the likes of NieR: Automata, which inspired Stellar Blade. Sony’s help was a boon to Shift Up, as Stellar Blade is its first console project ever.
From a protagonist whose appearance in Stellar Blade references a real South Korean model to a focus on smooth action gameplay and striking effects, Shift Up’s first console title is catching a lot of attention from players thanks to its attractive visuals. It’s encouraging to see that Shift Up is giving players a bit more control over how they’d like to experience EVE’s journey with graphical options. Whether they have a high-resolution 4K screen or prefer the fastest and most responsive gameplay possible, Stellar Blade players will be able to experience one of the PS5’s major 2024 releases on their own terms.
