Publisher Paradox Interactive and developer Kokku have announced another delay for Prison Architect 2, their new 3D sequel.
Prison Architect 2 will forgo its previously planned September release to an unannounced date, delaying the game indefinitely.
Whenever the prison management sim sequel launches it’ll be available for Windows PC (via Steam), Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.
In the game’s official forum, the companies noted the third delay was needed to address technical difficulties and the need to improve performance.
“Our continuous internal reviews and beta test groups have highlighted areas that we need to focus on more which we need to address before launch to ensure players get a good experience in the game,” the companies said.
The developer said they can’t commit to a new release date until they can “re-assess the scope of the work needed to be done.” The developer also said that they are limiting communication with customers until they have a timeline they “have a timeline we feel comfortable with.”
In its concluding statement the developer said “this decision aligns with our commitment to reviewing and improving the quality of our released content. We are confident that delaying Prison Architect 2 is the best path forward for the game, allowing us more time to deliver a high-quality experience that honours the legacy of Prison Architect.”
The game was supposed to be released on January 2024, but it has been repeatedly delayed. The original developer Double Eleven left the project back in May after a disagreement with a commercial agreement, handing development off to Kokku.
