The developers of Temtem, the monster-collecting RPG, have shared their plans for the game’s future in an open letter to the community. The letter mentioned that the game will still get bug fixes, balance changes, and quality-of-life improvements, but they will no longer prioritize adding major new content.
According to a Steam announcement, the upcoming patch 1.7, expected in June, will be the last major update for Temtem. It will bring a new season, a new Tamer Pass, and the Arcade Bar with minigames and rewards as previously announced. Patch 1.8, coming later in the year, will mainly focus on improving the current experience and will not include a new season, Tamer Pass, or additional islands.
This will also bring the end of microtransactions for the game. Before, players could spend real money to buy Nova, the special currency in Temtem, which they could use to get different cosmetic items. But after patch 1.7, all the items that used to be available with Nova can be earned by playing the game and using Feathers, the in-game currency.
Even though this sounds like end-of-service speak, it’s not going away. Crema reassured everyone in the post that Temtem was here to stay. The game servers will remain online, and the development team will still address any bugs and balance issues that may arise.
The reason seems to be that Crema is working on new projects in the Temtem universe. These include Temtem: Swarm, a survival game, and an animated Temtem series. Both projects are currently in development. The biggest new project is an undisclosed game created with a new engine and showcasing a new combat system. This implies that the project is not a direct follow-up to Temtem but a fresh adventure set in the same world.
I will wait until all the real-life currency stuff goes away before I join in myself. I recommend the same for anyone who has waited to try this Pokémon-like game out.
