- Niantic has not addressed the controversy surrounding the paid tickets, which is not uncommon for the company.
Some Pokemon GO players are unhappy with the Timed Research tasks in the Winter Holliday Part 1 event. Like other free-to-play games, players don’t have to pay to play Pokemon GO. But if trainers want to speed up their progress, Pokemon GO has in-game purchases and paid tickets.
This week, Niantic announced the Winter Holiday Part 1 event, which will add Cetoddle and Cetitan to Pokemon GO. The event will also feature a series of Pokemon in Christmas outfits, such as Eevee, Pikachu, and Spheal. All players will get Timed Research, but two Timed Researches will be available via paid ticket. With it, players will have benefits such as Premium Battle Passes and encounters with event-themed Pokemon. Another advantage is that this will be the only way to catch a Psyduck in a Christmas outfit. However, one aspect of the event isn’t pleasing Pokemon GO players.
Pokemon GO Announces Big Storage Change
Pokemon GO announces a major change for Pokemon and items storage for players to enjoy the upcoming events, but it has a catch.
Twitter user JoeMerrick criticized Pokemon GO‘s paid Timed Research tickets. The founder of the popular website Serebii defines the existence of these tickets as something “egregious,” because if a player pays for Timed Research and doesn’t finish the tasks before the deadline, they lose their rewards. Merrick also specifically criticizes the two Winter Holiday Part 1 tickets, a decision he calls “overboard” since the event ends at Christmas. He also recalls the nerf to Pokemon GO‘s remote raids, saying that Niantic “shouldn’t have nerfed them if the revenue is so bad.”
In the mentions, users had divided reactions to Joe Merrick’s tweet. Littleheaven70 said, “While other games give Christmas presents, Pokemon GO makes you pay for things you can’t keep if you don’t claim it in time.” Mewfan42 said that they didn’t miss any ticketed events, but after the remote raids nerf, they started to ignore “80% of them.” Other players aren’t against the idea, like Marcdachamp who said they don’t mind the paid tickets because Pokemon GO “gives more than enough free stuff.” TimeKz1 said they don’t mind buying tickets, but agreed with Merrick and called the two Timed Researches at Christmas “overkill.” It’s not the first time players have questioned the timing of Niantic, which this year added Regieleki to Pokemon GO in an event during Easter.
Niantic hasn’t commented on the paid tickets for the Winter Holiday Part 1 event, and fans shouldn’t expect it to since Niantic doesn’t address Pokemon GO controversies directly.
