An artistically talented Pokemon fan is quickly gaining attention due to their impressive trio of cover art for theoretical remakes of the video games from the franchise’s storied second generation. The three art pieces, which feature modern-day renditions of Pokemon Gold, Pokemon Silver, and Pokemon Crystal – should they ever be remade for the Switch – are getting quite a few Pokemon fans talking about the concept online.
Often cited by fans as one of the best video game generations of the entire Pokemon series, Gen 2 introduced a variety of features still used in Pokemon games to this day. These include advancements such as the advent of Pokemon breeding, the introduction of Dark and Steel-types, an internal clock, and more. The Gen 2 titles were also the first to include more than one region, allowing players to travel back to the first gen’s Kanto region. This hadn’t been repeated until Pokemon Scarlet and Violet‘s recent DLC, making Pokemon Gen 2 and Gen 9 outliers in the series.

An imaginative Pokemon fan is being lauded for their adorable dessert version of Litwick, making clever use of the Pokemon’s original design.
The conceptual cover art for Switch remakes of Pokemon Gold, Pokemon Silver, and Pokemon Crystal come from a Reddit user named TheKosmicKollector, who posted their magnificent mock-ups to one of the site’s primary Pokemon pages. Each of the boxes features the same Legendary Pokemon as their original versions, but as textured 3D models rather than the traditional 2D drawings. All three contain details pertaining to the featured Pokemon, with Pokemon Silver featuring Lugia with the ocean, Pokemon Gold featuring Ho-Oh soaked in sun rays, and Pokemon Crystal featuring Suicune and an ethereal space vibe.
As many will recall, Pokemon‘s Gen 2 games have already received a remake in the form of Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver. Released on the Nintendo DS in 2009 and 2010, the remakes featured updated graphics in addition to a myriad of quality-of-life improvements, including content previously exclusive to Pokemon Crystal. The games also featured one of the franchise’s most unique items with the Game Boy Sounds changer, which allowed players to toggle between the modern or original chiptune versions of the game music, a potential game-changer if used outside of Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver or other remakes.
What’s the Future for Pokemon Remakes?
While news of a Switch remake of Gen 2 Pokemon titles remains nonexistent, there are rumors of Pokemon Black and White being next up for the remake treatment. Following the pattern The Pokemon Company and Game Freak have currently established – previously remaking Gen 4 in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, it stands to reason that Gen 5 will be the next. The Pokemon Black and White remakes have a few obvious titles that they could go with, but it’s anyone’s guess as it stands.
Although Pokemon fans remain in the dark as far as what the next remake will be, important information of some sort should be coming soon. February 27 is going to be a big day for Pokemon fans, as it is the official Pokemon Day 2024. While nothing specific has been revealed, fans can expect plenty of announcements from the massive franchise soon.
