A talented Pokemon fan turned Tyranitar into a realistic creature. The Pokemon franchise has countless real-life inspirations, with critters based on the designs of animals, plants, and flowers. But there are other Pokemon whose origins come from mythology and literature, making Pokemon lore one of the richest in the gaming world.
One of the Pokemon whose origins go back to both real life and pop culture is Tyranitar. Featured in Gen 2, Tyranitar is a Rock/Dark-type that evolves from Pupitar and is Larvitar’s final form. Known for its insolent nature, Tyranitar has a large body reminiscent of a tyrannosaurus and is so powerful that it can create earthquakes if angered. Tyranitar is a fearsome Pokemon for its size and power level, and a Pokemon fan recently gave the monster an even more fearsome appearance.

Reddit user Necrospook shared fan art imagining Tyranitar with a realistic appearance. In the video published by the artist, they show the Pokemon with its basic bipedal dinosaur form, but its armor-like hide has taken on an ancient appearance, transforming into a kind of rocky skin. With sharp claws on its hands and feet, Tyranitar’s chest has kept the original design. But its countless details are worthy of a Monster Hunter version of a Pokemon. The spikes that start at the tip of its head and run down to its tail have a pointed appearance, the same as the series of smaller spikes covering the Tyranitar’s back.
The Pokemon community reacted to the Necrospook fan art with much praise and comments noting the similarity between the realistic Tyranitar and Godzilla. This wouldn’t be a first, as there are Pokemon inspired by Godzilla. Another Reddit user said, however, that there is a theory that Tyranitar isn’t based on the King of the Monsters, but on Ultraman‘s Bemular, which also has a green, spiky body. The OP also said they will try to post the print files when the project is finished, in case Pokemon fans want to create a 3D version of Tyranitar. For more technical fans, they revealed that they used the software called Zbrush to start the fan art, following up with other programs they didn’t say the names of.
Giving Pokemon realistic designs is something that has inspired fans over the years, and even official productions such as Detective Pikachu. The Necrospook fan art stands out in particular because it keeps the original idea of Tyranitar’s form, and elevates its appearance with an impressive and eye-catching design.
