Players can take a peek into the design of Diablo Immortal’s new class ahead of its release this month

It doesn’t matter how much effort developers put into their classes, or how many special little mechanics there are; if there is one that wields two blades, I’m ignoring everything else. Diablo Immortal recently announced such a class in the shape of the Tempest, and now, we have been treated to a making-of-documentary.

Scheduled to arrive on May 23rd, The Tempest is a warrior-priest who has mastered the winds and the waters, much like its namesake. It is a highly mobile class that deals quick strikes with its two weapons, ranged attacks with knife-tipped whips, and the frankly awesome-sounding Zephyr summons.

The Tempest’s passive skill summons projected Zephyrs to fight alongside them, with the minions mirroring class abilities and acting on a cooldown – basically another Tempest to help cut around the map with. Taking on this class will send you North of the Dreadlands to Pelghain, as you desperately toil to rescue the island.

In this documentary, the team behind Diablo Immortal speak about the inspiration behind the Tempest, wanting to give players something new that they haven’t seen in an existing class. Given that this class follows the Blood Knight, a dark class, the Tempest was designed to be a lighter, more flowing class. As well as the fascinating lore behind the design, we can also see a bit more gameplay, and it definitely looks like it’s going to be very fun.

As well as this new class, Immortal is having a bit of a rework to its Paragon System. Previous sections are going to be combined, with 15 trees being compressed down into 5, each with 15 skills. You will be able to select any 5 active skills from this pool within a given branch. Crucially, you will retain all progress made on Paragons so far.

Diablo Immortal is available to download from the App Store and Google Play.
