An official Planet of the Apes TTRPG is coming. Magnetic Press, the company behind the Carbon Grey RPG, has announced that they will be bringing the long-running sci-fi franchise to gaming tables, using their Magnetic Variant of the West End Games D6 system.
The Planet of the Apes TTRPG announcement
According to the official game page, the Planet of the Apes TTRPG brings players into the titular sci-fi setting. It is based on the 1968 original film, which depicts a world where humans are lower beings ruled over by intellectually superior apes.
Planet of the Apes is one of the longest-running sci-fi series ever. It has spawned several feature films, two separate reboots helmed in 2001 and 2011, and multiple crossover comics with other iconic franchises such as Star Trek. With Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes coming to theaters this May, it shows no signs of slowing down.
Players can take on the roles of intellectual chimpanzees seeking scientific pursuits, orangutan statesapes armed with diplomatic and political skill, gorilla soldiers sworn to protect Ape City, mute tribal humans scavenging resources, or time-lost astronauts struggling to make sense of a world turned on its head. You can even play as mutants gifted with mental powers.
The Planet of the Apes TTRPG will include adventures and locations from the feature films. You can explore the remains of the Statue of Liberty, navigate the ostentatious Ape City, brave the foreboding Forbidden Zone, and even explore the mutant undercity.
The core rulebook is packed with lore written by celebrated writers and designers. Among them is sci-fi novelist Andrew E.C. Gaska, who assisted in the development of the Carbon Grey RPG.
The Planet of the Apes TTRPG will contain several books and products. These include the 300+ page Core Rulebook featuring artwork by Bill Sienkiewicz, the Ansa Files Sourcebook, which packs material from the classic films, TV show, novelizations, and animated series into 272 pages, as well as 3D resin miniatures and premade adventure boxes.
Finally, there are premium limited edition collector’s sets for those that pre-order. Among those pre-ordering incentives are exclusive limited-edition linen cardstock art prints, which are added to all pre-registered orders at no additional cost. At the time of writing, no release date has been announced.
