Publisher Annapurna Interactive has officially announced the release date for its upcoming interactive adventure title, Open Roads, during the recent Wholesome Snack: The Game Awards 2023 Edition broadcast. On February 22, 2024, Open Roads will launch across various platforms, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
The story of Open Roads unfolds as 16-year-old Tess Devine and her mother, Opal, discover a cache of old notes and letters in the attic of their house one fine fall day. These documents contain hints of deep-rooted family secrets, decades-old burglaries, and a lost treasure somewhere near the Canadian border.
In a quest to unveil the truth, Tess and Opal embark on a road trip, exploring abandoned family properties that conceal forgotten memories. These places, haunted by Opal’s attempts to forget the past, become the backdrop for their journey. In this pursuit, they not only discover the truth they seek but also a deeper understanding of each other.
As players join Tess and Opal on their journey, they will experience the classic road trip atmosphere, complete with moments of relaxation in the car, adjusting the radio, and engaging in conversations.
Open Roads boasts a groundbreaking art style that seamlessly combines detailed first-person environments with beautifully hand-animated characters. The game features a unique and immersive interactive dialogue system that propels the narrative forward, exposing character flaws, secrets, and buried truths. This experience is further elevated by the remarkable performances of Keri Russell (known for The Americans and Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker) as the voice of Tess and Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart, Uncharted 4) lending her voice to Opal.
For eager fans who want to be notified as soon as Open Roads is released, the game is now available to wishlist on Steam and the PlayStation Store.
