Once Upon a Galaxy is the newly-announced card battler from Million Dreams
  • Once Upon a Galaxy is the new game from developer Million Dreams
  • It’s a fairytale, in SPACE, where recognisable faces crew and captain a star-sailing ship
  • Use unique abilities and collect spells to influence the course of the battle!

Game developer Million Dreams has unveiled their new game, Once Upon a Galaxy, coming to iOS and Android. Billed as a pick-up-and-play card game, Once Upon a Galaxy takes you into a fantasy-inspired sci-fi setting where you must manage your captain and crew in order to achieve victory.

Once Upon a Galaxy joins Treasure Planet in the vanishingly small genre of ‘fairytales in space’, as it features not just more generic fantasy characters, but also some recognisable (even with the serial numbers filed off) fairytale characters.

In Once Upon a Galaxy, you select a captain for your crew who’ll grant them unique bonuses, before building said crew from your deck. You’ll be able to slowly upgrade then from bronze to gold while collecting spells and using special abilities to sway the course of the battle.

You can find out more about Once Upon a Galaxy (and back their Kickstarter) by checking out the game’s official site.

A standout?

If you’re in attendance at Gen Con this August 1st to 4th, meanwhile, you can get hands-on with Once Upon a Galaxy and decide for yourself. For our money, it’s definitely an interesting take aesthetics-wise, but we know that many card games live and die by the worthiness of their mechanics and balance.

While Million Dreams may be a relative newcomer to the field, we’re loathe to write them off for that. So we’re intrigued to see what Once Upon a Galaxy is like when it comes out, and whether it’ll manage to shoot to the stars.
