The popular Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 GPU will be discontinued, according to information reportedly sent to the company’s board partners. The information suggests that Nvidia is moving on completely from its entry-level RTX 30 series offering, as time progresses toward a potential RTX 50 series reveal.
Released in February 2021, the RTX 3060 GPU became Nvidia’s lowest tier option for gamers wanting to build a desktop PC with a RTX 30 series GPU. Despite being an entry-level GPU, the RTX 3060 featured 12 GB of GDDR6 memory, which was four more GB than its more powerful RTX 3070 and 3070 Ti counterparts. Support for DLSS and other Nvidia technologies also made the RTX 3060 a compelling option for gamers with a lower budget. In addition, the RTX 3060 became one of the most popular GPUs of all time in the Steam hardware survey, with a higher percentage usage over its predecessors, the GTX 1060 and RTX 2060, at 5.9%.

As reported by Chinese forum Board Channels and Videocardz.com, board partners like Colorful and Palit were reportedly informed by Nvidia that the company will be taking its final supply orders for the RTX 3060. This means that the RTX 3060 will be discontinued and, eventually, new RTX 3060 GPUs will no longer be sold at retail. The discontinuation of RTX 3060 supply will not be immediate, however. It’s worth noting that these last supply orders may take months to fulfill per board partner, so RTX 3060 stock may continue to be made available well into 2025, after the rumored reveal of Nvidia’s RTX 50 series GPUs.
Nvidia Informs Board Partners of Final RTX 3060 Orders Before It’s Discontinued

Further, Nvidia did not reveal if other RTX 30 series GPUs, including the RTX 3080, will be discontinued in the near future or not.
According to rumors and speculation, Nvidia will reveal its next generation RTX 50 series GPUs at CES 2025, but nothing has been officially confirmed by the company yet. The next-gen Nvidia offerings are rumored to range from the entry level RTX 5050 to the premium RTX 5090. RTX 50 series GPUs will feature GDDR7 video memory, with support for up to 32 GB on the RTX 5090. Moreover, new RTX 50 series gaming laptops are expected to be released sometime in early 2025.
