NPCs You Should Not Kill In Lords Of The Fallen

Highlights

  • NPCs in Lords of the Fallen have their own questlines, but killing them can have consequences for the player’s progress and access to items.
  • Killing specific NPCs is required for certain endings, such as Damarose for the Umbral Ending.
  • Killing NPCs like Pieta and Gerlinde during the Umbral Ending can result in their disappearance and the loss of their services.

There are countless NPCs in Lords of the Fallen, most of whom have their own questlines. Completing these questlines does not change the story’s outcome but can be required for specific endings. Lords of the Fallen changes the traditional way NPCs act, as most Soulslike games allow the player to strike NPCs using their melee weapons and even kill them. However, this is not the case with Lords of the Fallen because NPCs are immune, and no hits are registered when attacking them.

Magic users in Lords of the Fallen will be interested to know where these valuable Catalysts can be found.

Killing them requires a bit more effort, and some can only be killed during a specific ending. There are multiple NPCs that the player should avoid killing in Lords of the Fallen, as they provide a lot of utilities throughout the game.

5 Damarose the Marked

Devout Follower of Adyr Who Provides Multiple Useful Items

Damarose the Marked in Lords of the Fallen

Damarose the Marked is an NPC that appears in different areas of the game. Not speaking to her during the first few interactions can fail her questline, so one must be careful not to forget. Damarose is a follower of Adyr and is trying to bring him back by any means. During her questline, Damarose asks the player to bring her multiple items to see whether or not they can serve Adyr and make preparations for his return.

During the Umbral Ending, the first NPC that needs to be killed using the seedpod is Damarose. Without killing her, the player will be unable to progress into the story, locking them out of the ending. Killing Damarose can fail her questline and stop the player from being able to purchase multiple spells and items that are needed in order to acquire trophies.

4 Pieta

Once A Boss, Now An NPC That Upgrades The Sanguinarix

Pieta in in Lords of the Fallen

Pieta is the first main boss the player will encounter and defeat to proceed in the game. After the boss fight, Pieta will become an NPC that players can talk to at the Skyrest Bridge. Pieta does not have a questline and only upgrades the player’s Sanguinarix at first. Later on, she can allow players to Rebirth, changing their stats.

As the player progresses in the Umbral Ending, Molhu will ask them to liberate Ellianne from her husk, Pieta, so she can soar free. At this point, the player will have to Soulflay Pieta, which will kill her for the rest of the playthrough. The next step in the ending is to fight Ellianne, who is the hardest boss in the game. As the player has killed Pieta already, this means that they cannot Respec or upgrade their Sanguinarix if they want to.

3 Kukajin

A Petrified Woman In Dire Need Of Healing

Kukajin in Lords of the Fallen

Kukajin is one of the easiest characters players can accidentally kill. She first appears in Forsaken Fen on the way to the Hushed Saint boss. During the first encounter, she is petrified and asks the player for their help. If the player attacks Kukajin in her petrified form, it will lead to her dying and cause her questline to fail.

Lords Of The Fallen: Best Grand Swords, Ranked

Grand Swords in Lords of the Fallen are sort of a niche category of weapon, surprisingly. Among all of them, these Swords are the best of the best.

During her questline, she tells the player to summon her in the major story bosses so she can help them at the cost of some Vigor. Summoning her multiple times but refusing to pay her causes her to become hostile in Upper Calrath. Fighting her and killing her there will also fail her questline. This leads to the player having to do another playthrough in order to complete her quest and acquire the related trophies.

2 Molhu

Offers Remembrances And Upgrades The Umbral Lamp

Molhu in Lords of the Fallen

Molhu is an NPC in Skyrest Bridge that can only be interacted with inside the Umbral Realm. Molhu provides the players with Umbral spells as well as the option to upgrade the Umbral Lamp, which increases the option to add more Umbral Eyes and increases Soulflay charges. Aside from this, one of the most important things that Molhu offers is the option to exchange Remembrances. This process requires the player to acquire the Bowl of Revelations and bring it back to Molhu.

Molhu can only be killed during the Umbral Ending. As he does not have a questline of his own, the Umbral Ending acts as his questline, as the player has to bring Parasites from bosses and NPCs in order to place them in the column next to Molhu. After killing multiple important NPCs for the Umbral Ending, Molhu takes out a seedpod and kills himself in order for the player to reach the ending. Killing Molhu to progress in the story makes it so that the player cannot buy items from him or exchange Remembrances. Items like the Vestige Moth and the Umbral Seedling are useful when exploring areas to collect armor or weapons after completing the game. However, buying these items is not possible after Molhu has disappeared from the world. The player will have to start a new playthrough in order to upgrade their Umbral Lamps, which can be tedious at times.

1 Gerlinde

Stopping Her Blacksmithing Services Is Not An Option

Gerlinde in Lords of the Fallen

Gerlinde is the Blacksmith in Lords of the Fallen who has her slave, Sparky, with her at all times. Sparky, throughout the game, expresses that Gerlinde has him in shackles and wants to be free. The first encounter with them will be inside a mine in Pilgrim’s Perch, where they will be locked inside a small prison. Freeing her allows the player to use her Blacksmithing services.

Gerlinde can only be killed during the Umbral Ending by using Gerlinde’s seedpod on her. The seedpod is provided by an NPC located in Mother’s Lull. Killing her is a necessary step in achieving the Umbral ending, and every player will have to do it. Doing this early on makes her disappear, and players can not access her Blacksmithing service for the rest of the game. However, there is a way to be able to upgrade weapons while also killing Gerlinde. To do this, the player must acquire the three Rune Tablets in different areas and bring them to Gerlinde. When parting with the last tablet, the player will receive the option to decide whether to give it to Gerlinde or Sparky. Giving it to Sparky allows the player to upgrade the weapons even after they both disappear.
