Nintendo Switch Online Update Adds Classic GBA Game

Highlights

  • The Nintendo Switch Online service now includes the classic Game Boy Advance game F-Zero: Maximum Velocity for subscribers.
  • Access to Game Boy Advance games requires the more expensive Expansion Pack, which also includes Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis titles.
  • With no new Expansion Pack games announced, there is anticipation for what Nintendo will add to the service in the future.

The latest update to the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service has added the classic Game Boy Advance game F-Zero: Maximum Velocity to the list of playable titles. The Nintendo Switch Online subscription service gives subscribers access to a wide range of classic Nintendo games from a variety of console generations. Some of these games are available to all Nintendo Switch Online subscribers regardless of tier, while some require the Expansion Pack.

The base Nintendo Switch Online service costs about $20 and gets players access to NES, SNES, Game Boy, and Game Boy Color games. Those willing to spend $50 a year for the Expansion Pack retain access to all those titles, plus Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy Advance games. So far, 15 Game Boy Advance games have been made available to those in North America, while those in Japan and Hong Kong have all those titles plus Mother 3 and Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade.

There Are Still 6 Nintendo 64 Rare Games Missing from Switch Online

There are still six Rare-developed Nintendo 64 games that have yet to be added to the Switch Online Expansion Pack.

The 15th Game Boy Advance game added to the Nintendo Switch Online service is available now, as Nintendo has just added F-Zero: Maximum Velocity to the roster. F-Zero: Maximum Velocity was announced for Switch Online earlier this week. One of the few handheld entries in the challenging racing game franchise, F-Zero: Maximum Velocity was releasd in 2001 to mostly positive reviews. The game features a Grand Prix mode, as well as a Time Attack-style Championship. Multiplayer options are also available.

Previously, Nintendo had announced a bunch of upcoming Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and Sega Genesis Switch Online games in advance, so subscribers had something to look forward to, even if they didn’t know exactly when the games would be available. Currently, there are no new Switch Online Expansion Pack games announced, and so it’s anyone’s guess what else Nintendo might add to the service in the coming months.

When it comes to the Nintendo Switch Online games, really anything from Nintendo’s past consoles is on the table. In fact, Nintendo has added multiple Xbox-owned games to the service, with a significant drop of such games added just this past February.
