A new 18+ version of the Nintendo Switch Online N64 app has been announced, though it will only be available in Japan.
As of now the only two games that have been confirmed for the app are GoldenEye 007 and Jet Force Gemini. Both are slated for November 30 in Japan, which is the same day the new version launches.
GoldenEye 007 was previously released for Nintendo Switch Online via the Expansion Pack tier at the start of 2023 in North America and Europe. In Japan, however, it’s only just now launching. It’s possible that Nintendo was thinking for a solution for the country given the game’s CERO Z rating, which would amount to AO from the ESRB and PEGI 18. If any future N64 games were to be released under the CERO Z classification, they would also likely end up in the new 18+ N64 app.
Jet Force Gemini is planned to be made available on Nintendo Switch Online sometime this December in North America and Europe. When we see it overseas, it should be a part of the regular N64 app, just like GoldenEye 007.
GoldenEye 007 and Jet Force Gemini were both originally made by Rare. The two games hit the N64 in 1997 and 1999 respectively.
