The next Nintendo console has been in the rumour mill for what feels like forever, but every day, we get closer to the day it finally gets unveiled. Nintendo said earlier in the year that it would be announcing the console sometime in this fiscal year, and though some had hoped that it would actually get announced sooner and release within that timeframe as well, it’s now being claimed that that might not be the case.
Speaking during the most recent episode of the GamesIndustry.biz Podcast, journalist Christopher Dring claimed that based on what he has heard, developers across the industry have been told by Nintendo not to expect the successor to the Switch to release this fiscal year, which means it will not launch before April 2025 at the earliest. Dring says that “a bunch” of people he’s spoken to are still hoping for an April or May release, but if you were hoping to see the console in the early months of the year, it looks like that may not happen.
Of course, that presents interesting questions about when Nintendo will choose to officially announce and start talking about the console Either way, it looks like the current Switch still has some life left in it.
