Rumours of a movie based on The Legend of Zelda have been popping up for years at this point, but now, that has been officially confirmed by Nintendo. Following the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie earlier this year, Nintendo has now announced that it’s working on a live action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda.
The movie is set to be co-produced by Nintendo and Sony Pictures, with the former financing more than 50% of the movie, and the latter being responsible for its worldwide theatrical distribution. Avi Arad (who has produced all Spider-Man movies, among other things) will serve as producer, and it will be directed by Wes Ball, the director of the Maze Runner trilogy and the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Nintendo also says it will be producing the visual contents of the movie itself.
Further details on the project are currently scant, with the movie currently in early production. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
