Nightdive Seemingly Teases Remaster of 2002’s The Thing

Nightdive Studios appears to be teasing some kind of remaster or remake of 2002’s The Thing, if a recent post on social media is anything to go by.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Nightdive invites fans to guess what game it’ll be announcing tomorrow as part of IGN’s three-day IGN Live event, accompanying the post with some rather unsettling artwork.

The artwork shows a face apparently corrupted with monstrous features, and a quick search shows that the face is part of the cover art for The Thing, a survival horror game developed by obscure studio Computer Artworks and co-published by Vivendi and Konami.

Looks like the same face, right?

It’s pretty much certain that the face Nightdive posted on X is the same one featured in the cover art for The Thing, so I guess it’s only a matter of time before Nightdive officially announces it’s remastering Computer Artworks’ effort.

Resurrecting old and forgotten classics is very much Nightdive’s schtick. This is, after all, the studio that recently gave us a remaster of relatively obscure 90s shooter PO’ed, as well as a nicely cleaned-up version of clunky 90s action-adventure game Shadow Man.

Games like Computer Artworks’ The Thing are often left to languish in obscurity forevermore, so it’s nice to see Nightdive turning its attention to a game many will have thought lost to the vaults of time for good.

The main character of Nightdive's remaster of Shadow Man shooting at a demonic dog
Shadow Man is just one of many games brought into the light by Nightdive.

You might also recognize Nightdive’s name from its recent System Shock remake, which went above and beyond the usual remastering process by delivering a completely reworked version of the influential 1994 shooter.

Of course, Nightdive hasn’t yet officially announced that it’s remastering The Thing (although the artwork arguably makes it pretty much a done deal), so it’s entirely possible the studio is actually teasing something else entirely. Watch this space for more info as and when we get it.
