After teasing a new voyage for Moana and Maui with a trailer in May, Disney has dropped another look at the animated sequel Moana 2 during its D23 event on Friday.
Originally developed as a TV series, the new Moana movie is set to splash into theaters on Nov. 27. Here’s the official trailer for the musical follow-up, set three years after the initial 2016 flick.
In Moana 2, the titular protagonist goes on an adventure “after receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors,” according to a Disney synopsis. Dwayne Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho are back as the voices of Maui and Moana. In addition to Moana 2, a live-action version of the first film is slated for release in 2026.
The earlier teaser trailer transported viewers back to Motunui and beyond, as Moana embarked on a new journey outside the reef. Familiar faces included the shape-shifting demigod Maui, Hei Hei the chicken and Pua the pig — who Maui referred to as a “boat snack upgrade.”
The clip included the menacing Kakamora, along with a breathtaking whale shark and some words from Moana: “This is a call from the ancestors to sail to new skies and reconnect our people across the entire ocean.”
