Less than a week before The Game Awards 2023, host Geoff Keighley teases the World Premiere announcement of Rocket Racing, a new game mode for Fortnite. Rocket Racing will unveil its gameplay during the ceremony next Thursday and should provide Fortnite players with a new way to enjoy Epic Games’ popular universe with a fast-paced racing game.
Every year, The Game Awards honors the best video games of the year during a ceremony gathering developers and influencers. Some of the most popular games compete to take home prestigious awards, including the Game of the Year award and the Best Game of each category. One of the reasons for The Game Awards’ popularity, besides the awards and speeches, is the various announcements and gameplay trailers revealed during the show. Xbox and Sega both teased major announcements at The Game Awards 2023, while some players are hoping for more information about Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2 and Elden Ring‘s DLC Shadow of the Erdtree during the ceremony.
Fortnite Teases Return of OG Map
Fortnite teases fans with the possibility that the mega popular OG map could be coming back after it is removed in the next event.
The Game Awards 2023 host Geoff Keighley teased the upcoming announcement of Rocket Racing, a Rocket League-inspired mode for Fortnite set to release on December 8, 2023. Psyonix, the studio behind Rocket League, will develop this new Fortnite mode where players can compete on various tracks with cars that come with various boosters. On its official website, Epic Games describes Rocket Racing as a supersonic arcade racer, with little more information as to what its gameplay entails.
Epic Games acquired Psyonix in 2019, and four years later this collaboration brings two of the most popular video games together as Rocket Racing seems to be a Rocket League-inspired mode for Fortnite. Rocket Racing was briefly teased during the Big Bang event in Fortnite, as players could see three upcoming game modes: a LEGO survival crafting adventure, a new music game called Fortnite Festival, and this fast-paced arcade racer inspired by Rocket League. During this event, players discovered the first preview of Rocket Racing, showcasing various cars competing on gravity-defying tracks at high speed. The speedometer goes over 600 kilometers per hour, which roughly amounts to 373 miles per hour.
The first week of December 2023 is going to be massive for the gaming industry, as a collaboration between Fortnite and Rocket League isn’t the only major announcement of the month. The first GTA 6 trailer will premiere a few days before The Game Awards 2023, as Rockstar Games announced that the first official footage for its upcoming open-world game will drop on December 5.
