More than 30 years after changing the landscape of video games, one of the original first-person shooters is back in a big way. As part of QuakeCon 2024, games maker Bethesda Software has released “definitive, newly enhanced versions” of both Doom and Doom II for all the major gaming platforms.

The two games are now a single release available on Steam for just $10. Even better, console players who already own either game can get this new bundle completely free.

The original Doom game, released in 1993, features an unnamed space marine fighting hordes of demons and the undead all the way from Mars to the depths of Hell. These new remakes switch the game over to the KEX engine, which was also used in the Quake and Quake 2 re-releases.

The new versions of Doom and Doom II will run on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, PC and Game Pass, and feature 4K resolution and 120 FPS on Xbox Series X|S, PC and PlayStation 5.

Along with the updated graphics, the new games add online, cross-platform deathmatches, co-op support for 16 players and 25 new deathmatch maps, along with support for modern game controllers. The remakes also add a new weapons carousel that makes it easier for players to switch guns and introduce a new “Legacy of Rust” episode that features six new enemies and two new weapons.
