The new Daredevil: Born Again directors are hard at work preparing to helm the highly anticipated series after Marvel Studios decided the show needed a complete creative overhaul. One of their sources of inspiration will please fans: Netflix’s Daredevil show.
Daredevil: Born Again had completed less than half of the 18 episodes before production shut down due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes. During this time, Marvel Studios executives watched what they already filmed and were not happy with what they saw. They decided the series needed a complete creative overhaul and fired the Daredevil: Born Again writers and directors. They later hired MCU veterans Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who directed episodes 2 and 4 of Moon Knight and were the lead directors of Loki season 2, to direct the rest of Daredevil: Born Again.
In an interview with The Wrap, Benson and Moorhead revealed that they are currently on “Day Zero” for Daredevil: Born Again. Moorhead explained that they are still building their foundation for the character and the show by researching and consuming Daredevil content. “We’re currently just consuming Daredevil content, not just the Netflix show but all the possible material. We’re just making our stew of information nice and thick,” he said. The two directors have not been on the project for long and are still researching the character.
It makes sense that Benson and Moorhead will watch the Netflix series and what was already filmed for Daredevil: Born Again. However, they didn’t give any specific details of what other Daredevil content they were consuming. It is also safe to assume they have watched his appearances in She-Hulk and Spider-Man: No Way Home. It was revealed that one of the first plot arcs expected to stay in the show was the trial of the White Tiger, so they probably are also reading Brian Michael Bendis’ run in Daredevil Volume 2. Another storyline that is expected to stay in the series is Wilson Fisk as mayor of New York City, so they will probably also read Charles Soules’ run in Daredevil Volume 5.
Fans should feel they are in good hands with Benson and Moorhead, as the two directors have created some of the best Marvel Studios Disney Plus content. Now, Benson and Moorhead are gathering as much information on Daredevil as possible.
However, this means Daredevil: Born Again is a long way out. Still, fans won’t have to wait that long to see the Man Without Fear, as Daredevil’s next appearance will be in Echo on January 10, 2024.
Daredevil: Born Again will be released on Disney Plus.
