Don’t watch the new trailer for Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns unless you don’t mind blood and gore. You won’t even be able to count the number of heads ripped off and spurting blood, or bodies torn in half with guts a-flying. But this is Mortal Kombat, not Animal Crossing, so fans are ready for it. And they should also get ready for some familiar cinematic faces, including Ghostface from the Scream movie series, Conan the Barbarian, and the T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
Robert Patrick, who played the T-1000, supplied his likeness and voice for the Mortal Kombat version of his creepy, liquid-metal, shape-shifting character, and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s likeness was used for Conan.
“After repelling the invaders who endangered Fire God Liu Kang’s New Era of peace, Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns expands the story campaign with an all-new cinematic narrative,” Warner Bros. Games said in a press release. “When a perilous threat arrives from an alternate timeline, led by the ruthless Titan Havik whose sole mission is to throw the realms into khaos, Liu Kang must rally his champions and put faith in his enemies to defeat this grave danger. If they fail, the New Era will be reduced to anarchy.”
The update was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday.
The movie-themed guest fighters will be a part of Kombat Pack 2, the new expansion for Mortal Kombat 1, which also features returning fighters Noob Saibot, Cyrax and Sektor.
Owners of Mortal Kombat 1 can now preorder the Khaos Reigns expansion on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC for $49.99 and Nintendo Switch for $39.99.
The Story expansion along with Noob Saibot, Cyrax, and Sektor will be available on Sept. 24, but Ghostface, T-1000, and Conan the Barbarian will be released after launch, with one-week early access provided to Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns owners. Kombat Pack 2 isn’t available as a standalone character bundle.
Mortal Kombat 1 owners can also preorder the Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns Bundle on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC for $59.99 and Nintendo Switch for $49.99, giving them immediate access to the previous Kombat Pack.
