Rockin’ the starter kit? Maybe you need help improving your set with our Monster Hunter Now Sword and Shield Build guide. We also covered Monster Hunter Now Great Sword build, and Monster Hunter Now Hammer Build Guide if they’re more your style. If not, stick around to find out the stats of each Sword and Shield set!
Monster Hunter Now is the latest entry in the Monster Hunter franchise! However, this one is a little different when compared to the rest. Niantic, the company that developed Pokémon GO is behind this brand-new project. It’s basically IRL Monster Hunter – what’s not to love? Hunt monsters using augmented technology and collect a variety of powerful weapons to help you along the way. Players can also unite with friends in battles against the more powerful foes in this ever-evolving game.
You can learn more about it on the official site. We also recommend checking out our Monster Hunter Now Guide, or maybe our Monster Hunter Now Tier List.
Monster Hunter Now Sword and Shield
Isn’t that a Pokémon game? I see what you did there Niantic!
Best Sword and Shield Builds
This starter set isn’t as novice as it may seem! With excellent overall speed and high crit potentials, this combo is a pretty good early game. Being able to take head-on attacks with a block reduces the need to dodge and roll, which is pretty ideal if you’re looking to lower the times of your fights. However, you may find it easier to ditch the dodge altogether as blocking head-on attacks increases your damage!
The best Sword and Shield combo has an elemental advantage against the monster you face. Monsters’ weaknesses can be exploited during fights to increase your overall damage. Alright, let’s see what different builds there are.
Datura Blossom
This weapon imbued with Poison is a hard-hitter, which also provides a nice damage boost if you are attacking from behind the monster. (So maybe you’ll want to keep dodging after all!)
- Attack: 1,596
- Element: Poison
- Special: 400
- Affinity: 0%
- Equipment Skill: Sneak Attack
Malady’s Tabar
Second up is the sister sword and shield combo to the Datura Blossom, except this element special is Paralysis.
- Attack: 1,596
- Element: Paralysis
- Special: 400
- Affinity: 0%
- Equipment Skill: Sneak Attack
Rogue Wave
This weapon exchanges raw damage for special damage. Rogue Wave, as the name implies, is a weapon that has the element of Water. So, of course, it is strongest against monsters with a weakness to Water elements.
Its Last Stand is the highlight of this weapon as it will increase your defense a dramatic amount when your health plummets below 29%. This is ideal for blocking builds since you wouldn’t faint if you accidentally misjudged the block and got hit.
- Attack: 1,293
- Element: Water
- Special: 910
- Affinity: 0%
- Equipment Skill: Last Stand
Flammensucher
Again, as the name implies this is a Fire weapon. This blade is the hot equivalent of Rogue Wave. The Equipment Skill of this blade will increase your damage the longer your fight lasts.
This weapon is of course ideal against monsters with a weakness to Fire, however, it is also great for powerful high-ranking monsters as it can give you a boost when the timer is running low.
- Attack: 1,292
- Element: Fire
- Special: 910
- Affinity: 0%
- Equipment Skill: Rising Tide
