Kiki’s Delivery Service is one of the best Studio Ghibli movies, but it has one major issue: there’s no video game tie-in. Well, until today at least. While it’s not official, Mimi’s Delivery Bash is Kiki’s Delivery Service: The Game in all but name.
You play as Mimi, who, much like Kiki, is a teenage witch trainee. She decides it’s her life goal to deliver mail by broom, which is what the gameplay involves. You fly from one NPC to the next on a 2D plane, picking up an item and delivering it to the recipient.
How Do I Know Where to Go?
A speech bubble containing the item pops up on the screen, detailing where you need to go next. Your goal is to complete a delivery as quickly as possible, which increases the amount of cash you earn for doing so.
There’s plenty of obstacles that will put a spanner in the works though. Fly into a building and you’re temporarily stunned. You also have to avoid other flying obstacles, like crows. They don’t take kindly to being flown into on a broomstick.
Where Can I Get Mimi’s Delivery Dash?
Mimi’s Delivery Dash is available right now on itch.io. Solo developer Nathan Scott created the original version in just ten days during the Movie Game Jam 2018, and has continued working on the game since then.
Naturally, it’s free, like most games on itch, so you lose nothing by checking it out. Besides, if you’re a fan of the Studio Ghibli movie, you really owe it to yourself to download it.
What’s Kiki’s Delivery Service?
If you’ve never seen, or heard of, the Studio Ghibli movie, you’re missing out. It sees a young witch, voiced by Kirsten Dunst, and her cat Jiji, Phil Hartman, set off on an adventure to discover Kiki’s talent.
Along the way, Kiki starts a delivery service, which she performs on the back of her broomstick. It’s called the Witch Delivery Service, as Kiki is, in fact, a thirteen year old witch. Go and watch it before playing Mimi’s Delivery Dash.
